What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
In Babylon’s luxurious palaces, jackals will howl, while ostriches dwell there and wild goats leap about—a remarkably well-appointed ruin.
The gates are openedvv. 1–5
Isaiah son of Amoz receives a burden against Babylon, and the summons begins on a barren hilltop: a banner raised, a call sounded, and a hand waved so that the warriors may enter the nobles’ gates. The noise gathers from the mountains and among the kingdoms, until the LORD of Hosts is mobilizing an army and bringing the weapons of His wrath from faraway lands.
The day of shakingvv. 6–18
The Day of the LORD arrives with limp hands, melting hearts, terror, pain, and faces flushed with fear. Light itself withdraws: the stars, the sun, and the moon all fail at their business. People flee like hunted animals to their own lands, while those caught face the sword and the ruin of their households. And then come the Medes, a conquering people with a curious indifference to the usual glitter of conquest: silver does not matter, and gold does not tempt them.
A palace district for jackalsvv. 19–22
Babylon, called the jewel of the kingdoms and the glory of the pride of the Chaldeans, is overthrown like Sodom and Gomorrah. No nomad pitches a tent there and no shepherd rests a flock; instead, desert creatures lie down in the houses. Ostriches and wild goats occupy the scene, while hyenas howl in the fortresses and jackals in the luxurious palaces. Babylon’s days, the passage says, are not to be prolonged.

Isa 13:1This is the burden against Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz received:
Isa 13:2Raise a banner on a barren hilltop; call aloud to them. Wave your hand, that they may enter the gates of the nobles.
Isa 13:3I have commanded My sanctified ones; I have even summoned My warriors to execute My wrath and exult in My triumph.
Isa 13:4Listen, a tumult on the mountains, like that of a great multitude! Listen, an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations gathered together! The LORD of Hosts is mobilizing an army for war.
Isa 13:5They are coming from faraway lands, from the ends of the heavens—the LORD and the weapons of His wrath—to destroy the whole country.
Isa 13:6Wail, for the Day of the LORD is near; it will come as destruction from the Almighty.
Isa 13:7Therefore all hands will fall limp, and every man’s heart will melt.
Isa 13:8Terror, pain, and anguish will seize them; they will writhe like a woman in labor. They will look at one another, their faces flushed with fear.
Isa 13:9Behold, the Day of the LORD is coming—cruel, with fury and burning anger—to make the earth a desolation and to destroy the sinners within it.
Isa 13:10For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not give their light. The rising sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light.
Isa 13:11I will punish the world for its evil and the wicked for their iniquity. I will end the haughtiness of the arrogant and lay low the pride of the ruthless.
Isa 13:12I will make man scarcer than pure gold, and mankind rarer than the gold of Ophir.
Isa 13:13Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken from its place at the wrath of the LORD of Hosts on the day of His burning anger.
Isa 13:14Like a hunted gazelle, like a sheep without a shepherd, each will return to his own people, each will flee to his native land.
Isa 13:15Whoever is caught will be stabbed, and whoever is captured will die by the sword.
Isa 13:16Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes, their houses will be looted, and their wives will be ravished.
Isa 13:17Behold, I will stir up against them the Medes, who have no regard for silver and no desire for gold.
Isa 13:18Their bows will dash young men to pieces; they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb; they will not look with pity on the children.
Isa 13:19And Babylon, the jewel of the kingdoms, the glory of the pride of the Chaldeans, will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah.
Isa 13:20She will never be inhabited or settled from generation to generation; no nomad will pitch his tent there, no shepherd will rest his flock there.
Isa 13:21But desert creatures will lie down there, and howling creatures will fill her houses. Ostriches will dwell there, and wild goats will leap about.
Isa 13:22Hyenas will howl in her fortresses and jackals in her luxurious palaces. Babylon’s time is at hand, and her days will not be prolonged.

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.
Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
