Zechariah 13

Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.

The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

A man with wounds on his chest says they came from the house of his friends—and the chapter leaves that house, and the business done there, unexplained.

The prophet’s very specific escape planvv. 1–6

A fountain is opened for the house of David and Jerusalem, while idols, prophets, and the spirit of impurity are swept from the land. A false prophet’s own parents are to pierce him, and the disgraced man abandons the hairy cloak and the prophetic title alike, claiming to be a landworker purchased as a servant in his youth. Then comes the awkward question about the wounds on his chest, answered with the still more awkward house of friends.

The sword and the remnantvv. 7–9

The sword is summoned against the Shepherd, called the LORD’s Companion; the sheep scatter, the little ones feel the LORD’s hand, and two-thirds of the land are cut off. A third passes through fire, is refined like silver and tested like gold, and arrives at a plain exchange of names: they call on the LORD, and the LORD calls them My people.

  1. Zech 13:1“On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the people of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity.

  2. Zech 13:2And on that day, declares the LORD of Hosts, I will erase the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered. I will also remove the prophets and the spirit of impurity from the land.

  3. Zech 13:3And if anyone still prophesies, his father and mother who bore him will say to him, ‘You shall not remain alive, because you have spoken falsely in the name of the LORD.’ When he prophesies, his father and mother who bore him will pierce him through.

  4. Zech 13:4And on that day every prophet who prophesies will be ashamed of his vision, and he will not put on a hairy cloak in order to deceive.

  5. Zech 13:5He will say, ‘I am not a prophet; I work the land, for I was purchased as a servant in my youth.’

  6. Zech 13:6If someone asks him, ‘What are these wounds on your chest?’ he will answer, ‘These are the wounds I received in the house of my friends.’

  7. Zech 13:7Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, against the man who is My Companion, declares the LORD of Hosts. Strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn My hand against the little ones.

  8. Zech 13:8And in all the land, declares the LORD, two-thirds will be cut off and perish, but a third will be left in it.

  9. Zech 13:9This third I will bring through the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on My name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are My people,’ and they will say, ‘The LORD is our God.’”

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
