Description

Dedication Festival in the text

In the words of STEPBible TIPNR:

The Dedication_Festival, mentioned in Jhn.10.22, is a Jewish festival also known as Hanukkah or the Festival of Lights. This festival commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the second century BC, after it had been desecrated by the Seleucid ruler Antiochus IV Epiphanes.

According to Jewish tradition, when the Maccabees recaptured and cleansed the Temple, they found only enough pure olive oil to light the Temple menorah for one day. However, the oil miraculously lasted for eight days, allowing time for new, pure oil to be prepared. Hanukkah celebrates this miracle and the triumph of the Maccabees over their oppressors.

The Dedication_Festival is observed for eight days, typically in December, and is characterized by the lighting of the menorah, special prayers, and the singing of hymns. The festival also involves the eating of fried foods, such as potato pancakes (latkes) and doughnuts (sufganiyot), which are prepared in oil to commemorate the miracle of the Temple oil.

In Jhn.10.22-23, Jesus is mentioned as being in Jerusalem during the Dedication_Festival and walking in Solomon's Colonnade in the Temple. This setting provides the context for His discourse on His identity as the Good Shepherd and His unity with the Father (Jhn.10.24-39).

The Dedication_Festival serves as a reminder of God's faithfulness and the importance of preserving and rededicating oneself to the worship and service of the Lord, even in the face of opposition and persecution.

Relations

Direct connections

Every entity the graph places in a stated relation with this one, grouped by the kind of link. Each relation is authored once and its inverse derived, so both ends always agree. Rows marked “registry” come from the identity spine rather than from a verse, and a row marked “which bearer is the source’s decision” is one where the name could have meant more than one person. The last group is not a relation at all — it counts the events two entities stand in together.

Every book of the corpus in the order it is read, each as wide as the chapters it holds. A bar is the verses of that book which write the name, and the flat stretches are as much of the answer as the bars.

Dedication Festival is named in 1 verse — occurrences of the name in the Hebrew or Greek, counted in the versification of the Berean Standard Bible (v5.7). Every book of the corpus is drawn, its width its share of the 1,189 chapters. 65 of the 66 books never write it. A verse that tells of this subject without writing the name is not counted here.
