The chapter
What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
Twice, a catastrophe is cancelled because Jacob is small; then a plumb line arrives, and mercy gives way to measurement.
Small Jacob, and the plumb linevv. 1–9
The Lord GOD shows Amos locusts poised to strip the land just after the king’s harvest, then fire consuming the great deep and devouring the land. Each time Amos asks how Jacob can survive, since he is so small, and each time the plan is abandoned. Then the vision takes an almost homely turn: the Lord stands beside a wall with a plumb line, asks Amos what he sees, and sets that ordinary instrument among Israel. The high places of Isaac and the sanctuaries of Israel are marked for desolation, and the house of Jeroboam for the sword.
Amaziah sends Amos elsewherevv. 10–17
Amaziah the priest of Bethel reports Amos to Jeroboam as a conspirator whose words are too much for the land to bear. He tells Amos to flee to Judah, earn his bread there, and prophesy there—but not at Bethel, which belongs rather grandly to the king and the kingdom. Amos answers that prophecy was not his trade: he was a herdsman and a tender of sycamore-fig trees until the LORD took him from the flock and sent him to Israel. He then gives Amaziah the word he has tried to forbid, including exile for Israel and a grim future for Amaziah’s household and land.

Amos 7:1This is what the Lord GOD showed me: He was preparing swarms of locusts just after the king’s harvest, as the late spring crop was coming up.
Amos 7:2And when the locusts had eaten every green plant in the land, I said, “Lord GOD, please forgive! How will Jacob survive, since he is so small?”
Amos 7:3So the LORD relented from this plan. “It will not happen,” He said.
Amos 7:4This is what the Lord GOD showed me: The Lord GOD was calling for judgment by fire. It consumed the great deep and devoured the land.
Amos 7:5Then I said, “Lord GOD, please stop! How will Jacob survive, since he is so small?”
Amos 7:6So the LORD relented from this plan. “It will not happen either,” said the Lord GOD.
Amos 7:7This is what He showed me: Behold, the Lord was standing by a wall true to plumb, with a plumb line in His hand.
Amos 7:8“Amos, what do you see?” asked the LORD. “A plumb line,” I replied. “Behold,” said the Lord, “I am setting a plumb line among My people Israel; I will no longer spare them:
Amos 7:9The high places of Isaac will be deserted, and the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste; and I will rise up against the house of Jeroboam with My sword.”
Amos 7:10Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent word to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words,
Amos 7:11for this is what Amos has said: ‘Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel will surely go into exile, away from their homeland.’”
Amos 7:12And Amaziah said to Amos, “Go away, you seer! Flee to the land of Judah; earn your bread there and do your prophesying there.
Amos 7:13But never prophesy at Bethel again, because it is the sanctuary of the king and the temple of the kingdom.”
Amos 7:14“I was not a prophet,” Amos replied, “nor was I the son of a prophet; rather, I was a herdsman and a tender of sycamore-fig trees.
Amos 7:15But the LORD took me from following the flock and said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to My people Israel.’
Amos 7:16Now, therefore, hear the word of the LORD. You say: ‘Do not prophesy against Israel; do not preach against the house of Isaac.’
Amos 7:17Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘Your wife will become a prostitute in the city, and your sons and daughters will fall by the sword. Your land will be divided by a measuring line, and you yourself will die on pagan soil. And Israel will surely go into exile, away from their homeland.’”

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.
Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
