Deuteronomy 13
Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.
The chapter
What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
A prophet may get the sign right and still be condemned: the successful wonder is presented not as proof of his message, but as a test of Israel’s loyalty.
The wonder that testsvv. 1–5
A prophet or dreamer announces a sign, and the sign comes about—then comes the astonishing turn: he invites Israel to follow gods they have not known. The wonder has succeeded, but the prophet has not. Israel is told to follow the LORD, keep His commandments, and put the prophet to death for trying to turn them from the commanded way.
The hand of the betrayedvv. 6–11
The invitation may come from the innermost circle: brother, child, wife, or closest friend. There is to be no pity, sparing, or shielding; the hand of the person first betrayed must begin the stoning, followed by the hands of all the people. It is an unusually intimate doorway into a very public punishment.
The city made a moundvv. 12–18
For a whole city, the command begins almost like an inquiry at law: inquire, investigate, and interrogate thoroughly. Once the charge is established, the inhabitants and livestock are put to the sword, the plunder is piled in the public square, and city and plunder go up together as a whole burnt offering. The city is then left as a mound of ruins, while nothing devoted to destruction is allowed to cling to Israel’s hands.

Deut 13:1If a prophet or dreamer of dreams arises among you and proclaims a sign or wonder to you,
Deut 13:2and if the sign or wonder he has spoken to you comes about, but he says, “Let us follow other gods (which you have not known) and let us worship them,”
Deut 13:3you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. For the LORD your God is testing you to find out whether you love Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deut 13:4You are to follow the LORD your God and fear Him. Keep His commandments and listen to His voice; serve Him and hold fast to Him.
Deut 13:5Such a prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he has advocated rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery; he has tried to turn you from the way in which the LORD your God has commanded you to walk. So you must purge the evil from among you.
Deut 13:6If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (which neither you nor your fathers have known,
Deut 13:7the gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, whether from one end of the earth or the other),
Deut 13:8you must not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity, and do not spare him or shield him.
Deut 13:9Instead, you must surely kill him. Your hand must be the first against him to put him to death, and then the hands of all the people.
Deut 13:10Stone him to death for trying to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
Deut 13:11Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and will never again do such a wicked thing among you.
Deut 13:12If, regarding one of the cities the LORD your God is giving you to inhabit, you hear it said
Deut 13:13that wicked men have arisen from among you and have led the people of their city astray, saying, “Let us go and serve other gods” (which you have not known),
Deut 13:14then you must inquire, investigate, and interrogate thoroughly. And if it is established with certainty that this abomination has been committed among you,
Deut 13:15you must surely put the inhabitants of that city to the sword. Devote to destruction all its people and livestock.
Deut 13:16And you are to gather all its plunder in the middle of the public square, and completely burn the city and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God. The city must remain a mound of ruins forever, never to be rebuilt.
Deut 13:17Nothing devoted to destruction shall cling to your hands, so that the LORD will turn from His fierce anger, grant you mercy, show you compassion, and multiply you as He swore to your fathers,
Deut 13:18because you obey the LORD your God, keeping all His commandments I am giving you today and doing what is right in the eyes of the LORD your God.

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.
Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
