What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
The vision ends with men bowing east at the temple, backs turned towards it, and with the unexplained flourish that they are “putting the branch to their nose.” Ezekiel is told that even their loud cries will not be heard.
Carried to Jerusalemvv. 1–6
Ezekiel sits in his house with the elders of Judah before him when the hand of the Lord GOD falls upon him. He sees a figure bright above the waist and fiery below it; a hand takes him by the hair, and the Spirit carries him in visions of God to Jerusalem. At the north gate stands the idol of jealousy, while the glory of the God of Israel is there too—a crowded entrance, and not a comfortable one.
The shrine in the wallvv. 7–13
At the court entrance, a hole in the wall becomes a doorway when Ezekiel digs through it. Inside, the walls are engraved with crawling creatures, detestable beasts, and the idols of the house of Israel. Seventy elders stand before them with censers, Jaazaniah son of Shaphan among them, and fragrant smoke rises in the darkness. Their explanation is that the LORD does not see them; the vision, rather awkwardly for that explanation, has brought Ezekiel straight in.
The eastward turnvv. 14–18
The next sight is at the north gate: women sit there weeping for Tammuz. Then the vision moves to the inner court, where about twenty-five men stand between the portico and the altar with their backs to the temple and their faces east, bowing to the sun. The accusation widens from what is happening in the court to violence throughout the land, and the final detail remains wonderfully unglossed: they are putting the branch to their nose. Wrath follows, and their shouting will not make the LORD listen.

Ezek 8:1In the sixth year, on the fifth day of the sixth month, I was sitting in my house, and the elders of Judah were sitting before me; and there the hand of the Lord GOD fell upon me.
Ezek 8:2Then I looked and saw a figure like that of a man. From His waist down His appearance was like fire, and from His waist up He was as bright as the gleam of amber.
Ezek 8:3He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. Then the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and carried me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the idol that provokes jealousy was seated.
Ezek 8:4And there I saw the glory of the God of Israel, like the vision I had seen in the plain.
Ezek 8:5“Son of man,” He said to me, “now lift up your eyes to the north.” So I lifted up my eyes to the north, and in the entrance north of the Altar Gate I saw this idol of jealousy.
Ezek 8:6“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see what they are doing—the great abominations that the house of Israel is committing—to drive Me far from My sanctuary? Yet you will see even greater abominations.”
Ezek 8:7Then He brought me to the entrance to the court, and I looked and saw a hole in the wall.
Ezek 8:8“Son of man,” He told me, “dig through the wall.” So I dug through the wall and discovered a doorway.
Ezek 8:9Then He said to me, “Go in and see the wicked abominations they are committing here.”
Ezek 8:10So I went in and looked, and engraved all around the wall was every kind of crawling creature and detestable beast, along with all the idols of the house of Israel.
Ezek 8:11Before them stood seventy elders of the house of Israel, with Jaazaniah son of Shaphan standing among them. Each had a censer in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising.
Ezek 8:12“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? For they are saying, ‘The LORD does not see us; the LORD has forsaken the land.’”
Ezek 8:13Again, He told me, “You will see them committing even greater abominations.”
Ezek 8:14Then He brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the house of the LORD, and I saw women sitting there, weeping for Tammuz.
Ezek 8:15“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see this? Yet you will see even greater abominations than these.”
Ezek 8:16So He brought me to the inner court of the house of the LORD, and there at the entrance to the temple of the LORD, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs to the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east; and they were bowing to the east in worship of the sun.
Ezek 8:17“Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see this? Is it not enough for the house of Judah to commit the abominations they are practicing here, that they must also fill the land with violence and continually provoke Me to anger? Look, they are even putting the branch to their nose!
Ezek 8:18Therefore I will respond with wrath. I will not look on them with pity, nor will I spare them. Although they shout loudly in My ears, I will not listen to them.”

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
