The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

The city's gates stand open day and night, yet any kingdom that refuses its service is promised destruction—a generous welcome with a most alarming terms-of-entry notice.

Light, caravans, and an extraordinary amount of livestockvv. 1–9

The chapter opens with darkness over the earth and glory rising upon the city. Nations and kings stream towards its light; sons arrive from afar, daughters are carried in, and the sea's riches come trotting behind a great procession of camels. Midian, Ephah, Sheba, Kedar, Nebaioth, and Tarshish all appear in the gathering, with gold, frankincense, flocks, rams, ships, silver, and children joining the imperial-looking family occasion.

Open gates, rebuilt walls, and a new materials policyvv. 10–18

Foreigners rebuild the walls while kings serve, and the gates remain open without a night's interruption so that wealth and rulers may enter in procession. The welcome is broad, though not indefinite: a nation that will not serve will perish. Lebanon contributes its trees to the sanctuary, former oppressors bow at the city's feet, and bronze, iron, wood, and stones are traded upward into gold, silver, bronze, and iron. Even the civic officials are replaced: peace governs, righteousness rules, and the walls acquire the splendid names Salvation and Praise.

When the sun is no longer requiredvv. 19–22

The city's light is no longer borrowed from sun or moon: the LORD is its everlasting light and splendor. Sorrow ceases, the people are righteous, and the smallest becomes a mighty nation. The final sentence gives the promise both an appointed time and astonishing speed, as though the calendar has been told to hurry.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
