The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

Belief arrives here not as composure but as the cry, “I am greatly afflicted,” followed by the alarming verdict, “All men are liars!”

A cry heard among the ropes of deathvv. 1–11

The speaker begins with love because the LORD has heard an appeal for mercy, then recalls a predicament with the theatrical efficiency of a net: ropes of death, the anguish of Sheol, trouble, sorrow. He calls, “O LORD, deliver my soul!” and is saved. The soul is told to return to its rest; eyes, feet, and life are restored. Yet belief does not produce a serene little speech. It produces, first, “I am greatly afflicted,” and then, in alarm, the astonishingly broad “All men are liars!”

The cup, the vows, and the curious worth of deathvv. 12–19

The question now is how goodness can be answered. The speaker proposes a cup of salvation, vows fulfilled publicly, a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and the repeated calling on the name of the LORD. In the middle of this celebration comes the startling sentence, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints,” set beside the earlier deliverance from death. The speaker calls himself the LORD’s servant, says his bonds have been broken, and ends not in private gratitude but in the courts of the LORD’s house, in Jerusalem, with vows and a Hallelujah.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
