Idumea

Ἰδουμαία

Idumea, a region south of Judea, inhabited by Edomites.

Where the story of Idumea happens Where the gazetteer locates Idumea, framed to them: Idumea. Each dot is a coordinate from the gazetteer. The coastline is a modern one, simplified; no border, road or settlement of any period is drawn, and no line joins two points, because the rows state where and not in what order.Idumea

Description

Idumea in the text

In the words of STEPBible TIPNR:

Idumea was a region located south of Judea, inhabited by the descendants of Esau, also known as the Edomites. In the New Testament, Idumea is mentioned only once, in Mrk.3.8, which states that people from Idumea came to hear Jesus and to be healed by him. The region was known for its hostility towards the Israelites throughout history, but during the time of Jesus, it was under Roman control. Idumea was gradually absorbed into Judea, and the Edomites were forcibly converted to Judaism by the Hasmonean dynasty in the 2nd century BC.

The pattern

Where Idumea is named

Every book of the corpus in the order it is read, each as wide as the chapters it holds. A bar is the verses of that book which write the name, and the flat stretches are as much of the answer as the bars.

1 verse across 1 of 66 books; 65 write the name nowhere. Named in Mark (1).

Idumea is named in 1 verse — occurrences of the name in the Hebrew or Greek, counted in the versification of the Berean Standard Bible (v5.7). Every book of the corpus is drawn, its width its share of the 1,189 chapters. 65 of the 66 books never write it. A verse that tells of this subject without writing the name is not counted here.
