שִׂפְמוֹת

Siphmoth was one of the towns in southern Judah that received a share of the spoils from David after he defeated the Amalekites (1Sam. 30:28).

Description

Siphmoth in the text

In the words of STEPBible TIPNR:

Siphmoth is mentioned only once in the Bible, in the context of David's distribution of the spoils after his victory over the Amalekites (1Sam. 30:28). After rescuing his wives and the families of his men from the Amalekites who had raided Ziklag, David sent gifts from the plunder to the elders of various towns in Judah, including Siphmoth. This gesture was likely intended to strengthen David's relationships with these towns and gain their support as he sought to establish his kingdom. The exact location of Siphmoth is unknown, but it was probably situated in the southern part of Judah, near other towns mentioned in the same passage, such as Aroer, Eshtemoa, and Hormah. The name "Siphmoth" may be derived from the Hebrew word "sapham," meaning "to cover" or "to hide," possibly indicating a concealed or protected location. However, the significance of the name remains uncertain due to the limited information provided in the biblical text.

Relations

Direct connections

Every entity the graph places in a stated relation with this one, grouped by the kind of link. Each relation is authored once and its inverse derived, so both ends always agree. Rows marked “registry” come from the identity spine rather than from a verse, and a row marked “which bearer is the source’s decision” is one where the name could have meant more than one person. The last group is not a relation at all — it counts the events two entities stand in together.

1 verse across 1 of 66 books; 65 write the name nowhere. Named in 1 Samuel (1).

Siphmoth is named in 1 verse — occurrences of the name in the Hebrew or Greek, counted in the versification of the Berean Standard Bible (v5.7). Every book of the corpus is drawn, its width its share of the 1,189 chapters. 65 of the 66 books never write it. A verse that tells of this subject without writing the name is not counted here.
