Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.

The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

The letter orders its own public reading, asks for a holy kiss, and only then departs with grace.

The day and its armourvv. 1–11

The Day of the Lord arrives with the manners of a thief and the timing of labor pains: sudden, unwelcome, and not especially interested in anyone’s calendar. Yet the brothers are called sons of light and day, equipped rather splendidly with a breastplate of faith and love and a helmet made of hope. Jesus died so that the awake and the asleep might live together with Him; the proper response is to encourage and build one another up.

The household instructionsvv. 12–22

The letter turns from cosmic timing to the rather more local business of living alongside fellow believers. The diligent are to be honoured, the unruly admonished, the fainthearted encouraged, the weak helped, and everyone met with patience—a full little parish register of temperaments. Then come the compact commands: rejoice, pray, give thanks, leave the Spirit alight, test prophecies, keep what is good, and abstain from evil.

A prayer, a kiss, and an ordervv. 23–28

The closing prayer asks the God of peace to sanctify the whole person—spirit, soul, and body—without leaving even one compartment unattended. Then the letter becomes wonderfully practical: prayer is requested, every brother is to receive a holy kiss, and the letter itself is to be read aloud to all the brothers. After this formal charge, grace gets the final word.

  1. 1 Thess 5:1Now about the times and seasons, brothers, we do not need to write to you.

  2. 1 Thess 5:2For you are fully aware that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

  3. 1 Thess 5:3While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

  4. 1 Thess 5:4But you, brothers, are not in the darkness so that this day should overtake you like a thief.

  5. 1 Thess 5:5For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness.

  6. 1 Thess 5:6So then, let us not sleep as the others do, but let us remain awake and sober.

  7. 1 Thess 5:7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.

  8. 1 Thess 5:8But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of our hope of salvation.

  9. 1 Thess 5:9For God has not appointed us to suffer wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

  10. 1 Thess 5:10He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with Him.

  11. 1 Thess 5:11Therefore encourage and build one another up, just as you are already doing.

  12. 1 Thess 5:12But we ask you, brothers, to acknowledge those who work diligently among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you.

  13. 1 Thess 5:13In love, hold them in highest regard because of their work. Live in peace with one another.

  14. 1 Thess 5:14And we urge you, brothers, to admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, and be patient with everyone.

  15. 1 Thess 5:15Make sure that no one repays evil for evil. Always pursue what is good for one another and for all people.

  16. 1 Thess 5:16Rejoice at all times.

  17. 1 Thess 5:17Pray without ceasing.

  18. 1 Thess 5:18Give thanks in every circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

  19. 1 Thess 5:19Do not extinguish the Spirit.

  20. 1 Thess 5:20Do not treat prophecies with contempt,

  21. 1 Thess 5:21but test all things. Hold fast to what is good.

  22. 1 Thess 5:22Abstain from every form of evil.

  23. 1 Thess 5:23Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your entire spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  24. 1 Thess 5:24The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.

  25. 1 Thess 5:25Brothers, pray for us as well.

  26. 1 Thess 5:26Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.

  27. 1 Thess 5:27I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers.

  28. 1 Thess 5:28The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
