Where the story of Thessalonica happens Thessalonica, and 3 places the claims reach, framed to them: Thessalonica, Berea, Amphipolis, Apollonia. Each dot is a coordinate from the gazetteer. The coastline is a modern one, simplified; no border, road or settlement of any period is drawn, and no line joins two points, because the rows state where and not in what order.ThessalonicaBereaAmphipolisApollonia

Description

Thessalonica in the text

In the words of STEPBible TIPNR:

Thessalonica was a major city in Macedonia, located on the Thermaic Gulf. It was an important commercial and political center during the Roman period. The apostle Paul visited Thessalonica during his second missionary journey, accompanied by Silas and Timothy (Act.17.1-9). Paul preached in the synagogue for three Sabbaths, reasoning from the Scriptures about Jesus as the Messiah. Some Jews and a large number of God-fearing Greeks, including prominent women, believed and joined Paul and Silas. However, jealous Jews formed a mob and caused an uproar in the city, accusing Paul and Silas of defying Caesar's decrees. The believers sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. Despite the opposition, a strong church was established in Thessalonica. Paul later wrote two epistles to the Thessalonian church, addressing their concerns and encouraging them in their faith (1Thess. 1:1; 2Thess. 1:1). Thessalonica is also mentioned in connection with Paul's travels and ministry (Act.20.4; 27:2; Phil. 4:16; 2Tim. 4:10).

Relations

Direct connections

Every entity the graph places in a stated relation with this one, grouped by the kind of link. Each relation is authored once and its inverse derived, so both ends always agree. Rows marked “registry” come from the identity spine rather than from a verse, and a row marked “which bearer is the source’s decision” is one where the name could have meant more than one person. The last group is not a relation at all — it counts the events two entities stand in together.

11 verses across 5 of 66 books; 61 write the name nowhere. Named in Acts (5), Philippians (1), 1 Thessalonians (2), 2 Thessalonians (2) and 2 Timothy (1).

Thessalonica is named in 11 verses — occurrences of the name in the Hebrew or Greek, counted in the versification of the Berean Standard Bible (v5.7). Every book of the corpus is drawn, its width its share of the 1,189 chapters. 61 of the 66 books never write it. A verse that tells of this subject without writing the name is not counted here.
