Psalms 62

Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.

The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

God has spoken once, but David has heard the matter twice—and the psalm declines to explain the second hearing.

A wall under threatvv. 1–4

David begins in stillness: his soul rests in God, whose rock, salvation, and fortress leave him unshaken. Then the scene tilts sharply towards the attackers, who mean to throw a man down like a leaning wall, smiling with blessings while keeping curses inside. A remarkably poor arrangement of mouths and intentions.

The refuge repeatedvv. 5–8

David tells his own soul to rest again, repeating the rock, salvation, and fortress almost word for word, though this time the promise is that he will not be shaken. Salvation and honour rest on God, and then the address widens to the people: trust, pour out the heart, and find refuge there. The refrain has acquired a congregation.

Vapour, wealth, and the double hearingvv. 9–12

The psalm then weighs human standing and finds both ends insubstantial: the lowborn are a vapor, the exalted a lie, and together they rise on the scale as vapor. Extortion, stolen goods, and increasing riches are all refused as places for the heart to settle. At the end comes the unexplained doubling: God spoke once, David heard twice; power belongs to God, loving devotion belongs to the Lord, and each man will be repaid according to his deeds.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
