Ezekiel 25

Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.

The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

In Ammon, judgment arrives with tents, fruit, milk, camels, and sheep: the people of the East will camp among the Ammonites, while Rabbah becomes a camel pasture and Ammon a resting place for sheep.

Ammon’s pastoral conquestvv. 1–7

The word of the LORD comes to Ezekiel, who is told to set his face against the Ammonites. Their offence is a shouted “Aha!” at the profaning of the sanctuary, the waste of the land of Israel, and the exile of Judah; then come the clapping hands and stamping feet, a remarkably physical sort of contempt. The consequence is an occupation with unusually domestic arrangements: tents, fruit, milk, camels, and sheep, followed by the cutting off of Ammon from the peoples.

Moab’s frontier citiesvv. 8–11

Moab and Seir declare that the house of Judah is like all the other nations. The answer begins at Moab’s frontier cities—Beth-jeshimoth, Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim—called the glory of the land, before Moab is handed over with the Ammonites to the people of the East. Moab receives judgments; Ammon, rather pointedly, receives oblivion among the nations.

Edom and Philistiavv. 12–17

Edom has acted vengefully against Judah, and Philistia has done the same with malice and ancient hostility. Edom is made a wasteland from Teman to Dedan, with Israel appointed as the hand of vengeance; Philistia loses the Cherethites and the remnant along the coast. The chapter closes with furious reproof and vengeance, each oracle ending with the same recognition: “they will know that I am the LORD.”

  1. Ezek 25:1Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

  2. Ezek 25:2“Son of man, set your face against the Ammonites and prophesy against them.

  3. Ezek 25:3Tell the Ammonites to hear the word of the Lord GOD, for this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because you exclaimed, “Aha!” when My sanctuary was profaned, when the land of Israel was laid waste, and when the house of Judah went into exile,

  4. Ezek 25:4therefore I will indeed give you as a possession to the people of the East. They will set up their camps and pitch their tents among you. They will eat your fruit and drink your milk.

  5. Ezek 25:5I will make Rabbah a pasture for camels, and Ammon a resting place for sheep. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’

  6. Ezek 25:6For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because you clapped your hands and stomped your feet and rejoiced over the land of Israel with a heart full of contempt,

  7. Ezek 25:7therefore I will indeed stretch out My hand against you and give you as plunder to the nations. I will cut you off from the peoples and exterminate you from the countries. I will destroy you, and you will know that I am the LORD.’

  8. Ezek 25:8This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because Moab and Seir said, “Look, the house of Judah is like all the other nations,”

  9. Ezek 25:9therefore I will indeed expose the flank of Moab beginning with its frontier cities—Beth-jeshimoth, Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim—the glory of the land.

  10. Ezek 25:10I will give it along with the Ammonites as a possession to the people of the East, so that the Ammonites will no longer be remembered among the nations.

  11. Ezek 25:11So I will execute judgments on Moab, and they will know that I am the LORD.’

  12. Ezek 25:12This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because Edom acted vengefully against the house of Judah, and in so doing incurred grievous guilt,

  13. Ezek 25:13therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I will stretch out My hand against Edom and cut off from it both man and beast. I will make it a wasteland, and from Teman to Dedan they will fall by the sword.

  14. Ezek 25:14I will take My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel, and they will deal with Edom according to My anger and wrath. Then they will know My vengeance, declares the Lord GOD.’

  15. Ezek 25:15This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Because the Philistines acted in vengeance, taking vengeance with malice of soul to destroy Judah with ancient hostility,

  16. Ezek 25:16therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I will stretch out My hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites and destroy the remnant along the coast.

  17. Ezek 25:17I will execute great vengeance against them with furious reproof. Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I lay My vengeance upon them.’”

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
