The chapter
What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
The chapter is suspicious of gain until it finds a kind it can praise: godliness pursued for profit is a trap, while godliness joined to contentment is “great gain.”
Service without the easy exceptionvv. 1–5
Those under slavery are told to regard their masters as worthy of honor, and believing masters bring no exemption from service; being brothers makes the service more earnest, not less. Then the chapter turns sharply on anyone who teaches otherwise, describing a mind feverishly devoted to disputes, suspicions, and the rather shabby business of treating godliness as a money-making device.
The good kind of gainvv. 6–16
Godliness with contentment is great gain, rather more durable than anything carried into the world or out of it. Food and clothing will do; the hunger to be rich, by contrast, becomes a snare crowded with foolish desires, and the love of money sends some wandering from the faith with sorrows in tow. Timothy is summoned to flee that lot, pursue a very different catalogue of virtues, and hold fast to eternal life and the good confession. The charge is made before God and Jesus, whose testimony was before Pontius Pilate, while the promised appearance of Jesus waits for its proper time beneath a magnificent description of the unseen Sovereign.
A different sort of wealthvv. 17–21
The rich are not told to stop enjoying what God provides; they are told not to make wealth their hope, since its uncertainty is a poor foundation. Instead, they are to become rich in good works, generous and ready to share, storing up a firm foundation for the future and taking hold of what is truly life. At the end, Timothy receives the entrusted charge personally: guard it, avoid empty chatter and the grandly named “knowledge” that has already sent some swerving away from the faith.

1 Tim 6:1All who are under the yoke of slavery should regard their masters as fully worthy of honor, so that God’s name and our teaching will not be discredited.
1 Tim 6:2Those who have believing masters should not show disrespect because they are brothers, but should serve them all the more, since those receiving their good service are beloved believers. Teach and encourage these principles.
1 Tim 6:3If anyone teaches another doctrine and disagrees with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and with godly teaching,
1 Tim 6:4he is conceited and understands nothing. Instead, he has an unhealthy interest in controversies and disputes about words, out of which come envy, strife, abusive talk, evil suspicions,
1 Tim 6:5and constant friction between men of depraved mind who are devoid of the truth. These men regard godliness as a means of gain.
1 Tim 6:6Of course, godliness with contentment is great gain.
1 Tim 6:7For we brought nothing into the world, so we cannot carry anything out of it.
1 Tim 6:8But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these.
1 Tim 6:9Those who want to be rich, however, fall into temptation and become ensnared by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.
1 Tim 6:10For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. By craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
1 Tim 6:11But you, O man of God, flee from these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.
1 Tim 6:12Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made the good confession before many witnesses.
1 Tim 6:13I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who made the good confession in His testimony before Pontius Pilate:
1 Tim 6:14Keep this commandment without stain or reproach until the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ,
1 Tim 6:15which the blessed and only Sovereign One—the King of kings and Lord of lords—will bring about in His own time.
1 Tim 6:16He alone is immortal and dwells in unapproachable light. No one has ever seen Him, nor can anyone see Him. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.
1 Tim 6:17Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be conceited and not to put their hope in the uncertainty of wealth, but in God, who richly provides all things for us to enjoy.
1 Tim 6:18Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, and to be generous and ready to share,
1 Tim 6:19treasuring up for themselves a firm foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
1 Tim 6:20O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you. Avoid irreverent, empty chatter and the opposing arguments of so-called “knowledge,”
1 Tim 6:21which some have professed and thus swerved away from the faith. Grace be with you all.

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.
