The chapter
What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
Jesus has just said that the disciples know and have seen the Father when Philip asks, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” It is a wonderfully abrupt request: the answer has apparently gone past him, and Jesus gently points out that it has been standing beside him all along.
The way, and the one already seenvv. 1–14
Jesus begins with troubled hearts and a house containing many rooms, promising to prepare a place and return. Thomas, with admirable precision, objects that nobody knows where Jesus is going, and therefore nobody can know the way. Jesus answers not with a map but with himself: “I am the way and the truth and the life.” Then Philip asks to be shown the Father, despite Jesus having just said that the disciples know and have seen Him. Jesus replies that seeing him is seeing the Father, and points to the Father dwelling in him and performing the works. The promises then grow splendidly large: believers will do the works Jesus does, and even greater things, while requests made in his name will be answered.
Another Advocate, and one awkward questionvv. 15–24
Love is described here in the practical shape of keeping Jesus’ commandments. In answer, Jesus says he will ask the Father for another Advocate, the Spirit of truth, who will remain with the disciples and be in them. The world will not see or know Him; the disciples will. Jesus will not leave them as orphans, and the Father and the Son will come and make their home with anyone who loves Jesus and keeps his word. At this point Judas—not Iscariot, a clarification of almost comic plainness in the middle of a farewell—asks why this revealing is reserved for them rather than the world. Jesus answers by returning to love, obedience, and the word from the Father.
Peace before departurevv. 25–31
Jesus says that the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, will teach and remind the disciples of everything he has said. He leaves peace, though not the sort the world gives, and repeats that troubled hearts need not be afraid. His going away is also his coming back, and his going to the Father is presented as cause for rejoicing. He has spoken beforehand so that belief may follow when events arrive. The prince of this world is coming, but has no claim on Jesus. Then, with the farewell still in the air, Jesus gives the most practical instruction in the passage: “Get up! Let us go on from here.”

John 14:1“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe in Me as well.
John 14:2In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
John 14:3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and welcome you into My presence, so that you also may be where I am.
John 14:4You know the way to the place where I am going.”
John 14:5“Lord,” said Thomas, “we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?”
John 14:6Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:7If you had known Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.”
John 14:8Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
John 14:9Jesus replied, “Philip, I have been with you all this time, and still you do not know Me? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
John 14:10Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you, I do not speak on My own. Instead, it is the Father dwelling in Me, performing His works.
John 14:11Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me—or at least believe on account of the works themselves.
John 14:12Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
John 14:13And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
John 14:14If you ask Me for anything in My name, I will do it.
John 14:15If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
John 14:16And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever—
John 14:17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and will be in you.
John 14:18I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
John 14:19In a little while the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live.
John 14:20On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.
John 14:21Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.”
John 14:22Judas (not Iscariot) asked Him, “Lord, why are You going to reveal Yourself to us and not to the world?”
John 14:23Jesus replied, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
John 14:24Whoever does not love Me does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me.
John 14:25All this I have spoken to you while I am still with you.
John 14:26But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.
John 14:27Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.
John 14:28You heard Me say, ‘I am going away, and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.
John 14:29And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.
John 14:30I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming, and he has no claim on Me.
John 14:31But I do exactly what the Father has commanded Me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us go on from here.’’

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
