Psalms 16

Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.

The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

At night, the speaker's conscience gives instruction, though the psalm leaves its lesson charmingly offstage.

A portion chosenvv. 1–8

David asks God to preserve him, then makes a firm little inventory of allegiance: the LORD is his Lord, his chosen portion, his cup, and the security of his lot. The saints delight him; the worship of other gods does not. His boundary lines have fallen in pleasant places, and even the conscience keeps watch at night—what it says is not supplied. With the LORD always before him and at his right hand, he will not be shaken.

The path of lifevv. 9–11

The confidence becomes gladness: heart, tongue, and body all join in. The speaker says that God will not abandon his soul to Sheol or let His Holy One see decay, and ends with a path made known, joy in God's presence, and pleasures at His right hand. The destination is named with considerable brightness, though the road itself remains undescribed.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
