The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

A horse is introduced, examined, and dismissed as a vain hope for salvation, while the LORD’s eyes rest on those who hope in His loving devotion.

A song for the One who stores the seavv. 1–9

The upright are summoned to praise with harp and ten strings, to sing a new song and play skillfully with a shout of joy. The reason is the LORD’s upright word and trustworthy work: by the breath of His mouth the heavens and stars appear, while the waters of the sea are piled up and the depths put into storehouses. He speaks, commands, and creation stands firm.

Counsel, kings, and the unfortunate horsevv. 10–19

The LORD frustrates the plans of nations and thwarts the devices of peoples, while His own counsel stands forever. From heaven He looks upon all the sons of men, shapes their hearts, and considers their works. Vast armies do not save a king, great strength does not deliver a warrior, and even a horse—so often brought in with impressive credentials—is a vain hope for salvation. The eyes of the LORD are on those who fear Him and hope in His loving devotion, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.

Waiting, rejoicing, hopingvv. 20–22

The soul waits for the LORD, named here as help and shield. The heart rejoices because trust has been placed in His holy name, and the psalm ends by asking that His loving devotion rest on those who put their hope in Him.
