What happens here
Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.
Christ, having been put to death in the body and made alive in the Spirit, goes preaching to spirits in prison—those linked with Noah’s long wait over the ark, though the sermon itself remains wonderfully offstage.
A household, and a rather serious matter for prayersvv. 1–7
The opening household instructions are addressed first to wives, then to husbands. Outward finery is set aside for the “unfading beauty” of a gentle and quiet spirit, and Sarah appears as the example: she obeyed Abraham and called him lord. Husbands, meanwhile, are to treat their wives with consideration and honor as fellow heirs—because, rather alarmingly plainly, their prayers may otherwise be hindered.
Blessing instead of the matching insultvv. 8–17
The circle widens from husbands and wives to everyone: like-minded, sympathetic, tenderhearted, humble. Evil and insult are not to be returned in kind but answered with blessing. The tongue is given particular supervision, while peace must be sought and pursued. Even suffering for what is right is called blessed, and a defence of hope is to be offered with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience while slander quietly ruins itself against good behaviour.
The prison sermon and the eight soulsvv. 18–22
The argument turns sharply to Christ: righteous for unrighteous, suffering for sins once for all, and made alive in the Spirit. In that Spirit he preached to spirits in prison, associated with those who disobeyed while God patiently waited during Noah’s ark-building. The ark saved only eight souls through water; that water is then made a symbol of baptism, which is described not as bodily washing but as a pledge of a clear conscience toward God. The final scene is heaven, with Jesus Christ at the right hand of God and angels, authorities, and powers subject to him.

1 Pet 3:1Wives, in the same way, submit yourselves to your husbands, so that even if they refuse to believe the word, they will be won over without words by the behavior of their wives
1 Pet 3:2when they see your pure and reverent demeanor.
1 Pet 3:3Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair or gold jewelry or fine clothes,
1 Pet 3:4but from the inner disposition of your heart, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God’s sight.
1 Pet 3:5For this is how the holy women of the past adorned themselves. They put their hope in God and were submissive to their husbands,
1 Pet 3:6just as Sarah obeyed Abraham and called him lord. And you are her children if you do what is right and refuse to give way to fear.
1 Pet 3:7Husbands, in the same way, treat your wives with consideration as a delicate vessel, and with honor as fellow heirs of the gracious gift of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
1 Pet 3:8Finally, all of you, be like-minded and sympathetic, love as brothers, be tenderhearted and humble.
1 Pet 3:9Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
1 Pet 3:10For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.
1 Pet 3:11He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.
1 Pet 3:12For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are inclined to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
1 Pet 3:13Who can harm you if you are zealous for what is good?
1 Pet 3:14But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear what they fear; do not be shaken.”
1 Pet 3:15But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give a defense to everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you. But respond with gentleness and respect,
1 Pet 3:16keeping a clear conscience, so that those who slander you may be put to shame by your good behavior in Christ.
1 Pet 3:17For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
1 Pet 3:18For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit,
1 Pet 3:19in whom He also went and preached to the spirits in prison
1 Pet 3:20who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In the ark a few people, only eight souls, were saved through water.
1 Pet 3:21And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body, but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
1 Pet 3:22who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers subject to Him.

Who else the chapter reaches
Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.
Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
