Exodus 6

Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.

The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

The chapter promises that Pharaoh will drive Israel out, only to find that Israel will not listen, and Moses is still asking why Pharaoh should.

A promise meets a closed earvv. 1–13

The LORD answers Moses with a mighty sequence of promises: Israel will be brought out, redeemed, taken as His own people, and brought into the land promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Moses relays it, but the people are too crushed by bondage to listen. Then comes the next instruction—tell Pharaoh to let them go—and Moses produces the same awkward arithmetic: if Israel will not listen, why should Pharaoh? The LORD charges Moses and Aaron with the whole business anyway, which is a wonderfully direct way to proceed when the spokesman has just explained why speaking will fail.

The family rollvv. 14–27

The narrative pauses for the heads of the families: Reuben, Simeon, and Levi, with their sons and clans. In the middle of this sober procession, Amram’s marriage to his father’s sister Jochebed is given as calmly as every other family connection, and from it come Aaron and Moses. Aaron marries Elisheba and has four sons; Eleazar marries a daughter of Putiel and has Phinehas. At the end, the chapter gathers the threads: this is the Aaron and Moses charged to bring Israel out, and these are the two who spoke to Pharaoh.

The objection returnsvv. 28–30

The chapter resumes the commission in Egypt. The LORD says, “Tell Pharaoh everything I say to you,” and Moses, having arrived at the final verse, returns almost exactly to his earlier objection: he is unskilled in speech, so why would Pharaoh listen? The door has been opened, the instruction repeated, and Moses is standing in the same doorway.

  3. Exod 6:3I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by My name the LORD I did not make Myself known to them.

  4. Exod 6:4I also established My covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land where they lived as foreigners.

  5. Exod 6:5Furthermore, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered My covenant.

  6. Exod 6:6Therefore tell the Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians and deliver you from their bondage. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.

  22. Exod 6:22The sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri.

  23. Exod 6:23And Aaron married Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

  24. Exod 6:24The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph. These were the clans of the Korahites.

  25. Exod 6:25Aaron’s son Eleazar married one of the daughters of Putiel, and she bore him Phinehas. These were the heads of the Levite families by their clans.

  26. Exod 6:26It was this Aaron and Moses to whom the LORD said, “Bring the Israelites out of the land of Egypt by their divisions.”

  27. Exod 6:27Moses and Aaron were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt in order to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
