Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.

The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

A prophet is told to clap his hands, stomp his feet, and cry “Alas!” while sword, famine, and plague go about their work.

The mountains hear their sentencevv. 1–7

The word comes to the prophet with an improbable congregation before him: mountains, hills, ravines, and valleys. He is to set his face against them, for their high places, altars, incense altars, and idols are all to be demolished, with the slain cast down among them. The landscape is made to display the result, and the survivors are to know who has done it.

A remnant remembersvv. 8–10

Yet the sword does not take everyone. Some escape and are scattered among the nations and throughout the lands; there, in captivity, the survivors remember the LORD and the grief caused by their adulterous hearts and idolatrous eyes. Their recollection is not flattering: they loathe themselves for what they have done, and learn that the calamity was not declared in vain.

The gesture and the mapvv. 11–14

Then comes the prophet's public instruction: clap, stomp, and cry “Alas!” over the wicked abominations of Israel, whose people will fall by three separate calamities. The far-off die by plague, the near fall by sword, and the one who remains dies by famine. Even the dead receive an exact setting—among idols and around altars, on hills and mountaintops, beneath green trees and leafy oaks—while the land itself is stretched into desolation from the wilderness to Diblah.

  1. Ezek 6:1And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

  2. Ezek 6:2“Son of man, set your face against the mountains of Israel and prophesy against them.

  3. Ezek 6:3You are to say: ‘O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD! This is what the Lord GOD says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys: I am about to bring a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.

  4. Ezek 6:4Your altars will be demolished and your incense altars will be smashed; and I will cast down your slain before your idols.

  5. Ezek 6:5I will lay the corpses of the Israelites before their idols and scatter your bones around your altars.

  6. Ezek 6:6Wherever you live, the cities will be laid waste and the high places will be demolished, so that your altars will be laid waste and desecrated, your idols smashed and obliterated, your incense altars cut down, and your works blotted out.

  7. Ezek 6:7The slain will fall among you, and you will know that I am the LORD.

  8. Ezek 6:8Yet I will leave a remnant, for some of you will escape the sword when you are scattered among the nations and throughout the lands.

  9. Ezek 6:9Then in the nations to which they have been carried captive, your survivors will remember Me—how I have been grieved by their adulterous hearts that turned away from Me, and by their eyes that lusted after idols. So they will loathe themselves for the evil they have done and for all their abominations.

  10. Ezek 6:10And they will know that I am the LORD; I did not declare in vain that I would bring this calamity upon them.

  11. Ezek 6:11This is what the Lord GOD says: Clap your hands, stomp your feet, and cry out “Alas!” because of all the wicked abominations of the house of Israel, who will fall by sword and famine and plague.

  12. Ezek 6:12He who is far off will die by the plague, he who is near will fall by the sword, and he who remains will die by famine. So I will vent My fury upon them.

  13. Ezek 6:13Then you will know that I am the LORD, when their slain lie among their idols around their altars, on every high hill, on all the mountaintops, and under every green tree and leafy oak—the places where they offered fragrant incense to all their idols.

  14. Ezek 6:14I will stretch out My hand against them, and wherever they live I will make the land a desolate waste, from the wilderness to Diblah. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
