Description

Hierapolis in the text

In the words of STEPBible TIPNR:

Hierapolis was an ancient city located in the region of Phrygia, in modern-day Turkey. It is mentioned once in the New Testament, in Paul's letter to the Colossians (Col.4.13). In this passage, Paul expresses his concern for the believers in Hierapolis, along with those in Laodicea and Colossae. This suggests that there was a Christian community in Hierapolis during the first century AD. Hierapolis was known for its hot springs and became a popular spa city in the Roman period. The city was also associated with the worship of the Phrygian mother goddess Cybele. The ruins of Hierapolis, including well-preserved Roman baths, temples, and a necropolis, can still be seen today.

The pattern

Where Hierapolis is named

Every book of the corpus in the order it is read, each as wide as the chapters it holds. A bar is the verses of that book which write the name, and the flat stretches are as much of the answer as the bars.

1 verse across 1 of 66 books; 65 write the name nowhere. Named in Colossians (1).

Hierapolis is named in 1 verse — occurrences of the name in the Hebrew or Greek, counted in the versification of the Berean Standard Bible (v5.7). Every book of the corpus is drawn, its width its share of the 1,189 chapters. 65 of the 66 books never write it. A verse that tells of this subject without writing the name is not counted here.
