The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

The grapes are thrown into God’s great winepress, and the blood rises as high as the horses’ bridles for 1,600 stadia—a vineyard with a rather alarming vintage.

The Lamb and the song no one else can learnvv. 1–5

The Lamb stands on Mount Zion with 144,000 marked on their foreheads with His name and His Father’s name. Heaven arrives as water, thunder, and harps all at once; then comes a new song before the throne, the living creatures, and the elders. Its curious exclusivity is left entirely intact: only the redeemed 144,000 can learn it. They follow the Lamb wherever He goes, and no lie is found in their mouths.

Three angels and three announcementsvv. 6–13

An angel flies overhead carrying the eternal gospel to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people, and calls the earth to fear God and worship its Maker. A second angel announces Babylon’s fall, while a third gives a severe warning to anyone who worships the beast or its image and receives its mark. Then comes a call for the perseverance of the saints, followed by a voice declaring the dead who die in the Lord blessed: they rest from their labors, and their deeds follow them.

The earth is harvestedvv. 14–20

One like the Son of Man sits on a white cloud with a golden crown and a sharp sickle. An angel comes out of the temple and tells Him to reap because the crop is ripe; He does so, and the earth is harvested. Another angel brings another sickle, and an angel from the altar—one with authority over the fire—orders the grapes gathered. They are thrown into the great winepress of God’s wrath, outside the city, where the blood reaches the horses’ bridles for 1,600 stadia. The measurement is remarkably neat, considering the scene.

  1. Rev 14:1Then I looked and saw the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him 144,000 who had His name and His Father’s name written on their foreheads.

  2. Rev 14:2And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of many waters and the loud rumbling of thunder. And the sound I heard was like harpists strumming their harps.

  3. Rev 14:3And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. And no one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth.

  4. Rev 14:4These are the ones who have not been defiled with women, for they are virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever He goes. They have been redeemed from among men as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.

  5. Rev 14:5And no lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.

  6. Rev 14:6Then I saw another angel flying overhead, with the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation and tribe and tongue and people.

  7. Rev 14:7And he said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come. Worship the One who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and the springs of waters.”

  8. Rev 14:8Then a second angel followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, who has made all the nations drink the wine of the passion of her immorality.”

  9. Rev 14:9And a third angel followed them, calling out in a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on his forehead or on his hand,

  10. Rev 14:10he too will drink the wine of God’s anger, poured undiluted into the cup of His wrath. And he will be tormented in fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb.

  11. Rev 14:11And the smoke of their torment rises forever and ever. Day and night there is no rest for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.”

  12. Rev 14:12Here is a call for the perseverance of the saints, who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

  13. Rev 14:13And I heard a voice from heaven telling me to write, “Blessed are the dead—those who die in the Lord from this moment on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labors, for their deeds will follow them.”

  14. Rev 14:14And I looked and saw a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was One like the Son of Man, with a golden crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand.

  15. Rev 14:15Then another angel came out of the temple, crying out in a loud voice to the One seated on the cloud, “Swing Your sickle and reap, because the time has come to harvest, for the crop of the earth is ripe.”

  16. Rev 14:16So the One seated on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.

  17. Rev 14:17Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle.

  18. Rev 14:18Still another angel, with authority over the fire, came from the altar and called out in a loud voice to the angel with the sharp sickle, “Swing your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the vine of the earth, because its grapes are ripe.”

  19. Rev 14:19So the angel swung his sickle over the earth and gathered the grapes of the earth, and he threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath.

  20. Rev 14:20And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and the blood that flowed from it rose as high as the bridles of the horses for a distance of 1,600 stadia.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.
