The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

Noah enters the ark, and then—on the day the fountains burst and the floodgates open—enters it again. The chapter makes no attempt to tidy the timetable, while the animals arrive in both seven pairs and twos.

The ark is entered, then entered againvv. 1–16

The LORD sends Noah, his family, and a carefully assorted menagerie into the ark: seven pairs of clean animals and birds, but a pair of unclean animals. The creatures come obediently, two by two, which gives the arithmetic a small ark-shaped wobble. Noah and his household enter before the seven days are over; then, on the very day the deep bursts open, Noah enters again. The LORD shuts him in, a wonderfully final sort of door-closing.

The waters take the whole earthvv. 17–24

The rain continues for forty days and forty nights, the ark rises, and the waters keep winning. Even the high mountains disappear beneath them, by fifteen cubits for good measure. Everything with the breath of life on dry land dies; only Noah and those with him in the ark remain, while the waters prevail for 150 days.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
