Every verse links to the people and places named in it, and to the passages readers connect it with.

The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

Some of the people who are accomplishing nothing are nevertheless busybodies, a remarkable arrangement of idleness and interference.

A request for prayervv. 1–5

Paul asks the brothers to pray that the Lord’s word may spread quickly and be held in honor, and that Paul and his companions may be delivered from wicked and evil men. The Lord, meanwhile, is described as faithful: strengthening, guarding, and directing hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.

The busybodies and the workvv. 6–15

The brothers are commanded to keep away from anyone leading an undisciplined life, with Paul and his companions offered as inconveniently industrious examples: they paid for their food and worked night and day. The sharp little rule is that an unwilling worker shall not eat. Some are accomplishing nothing while being busybodies, so they are urged to work quietly; the others are told not to grow weary in doing good. Even the person to be avoided is not to be treated as an enemy, but admonished as a brother.

Paul’s own handvv. 16–18

The letter closes with peace, a greeting said to be in Paul’s own hand, and grace from the Lord Jesus Christ. A small flourish at the end: Paul calls the handwriting his mark in every letter.

  1. 2 Thess 3:1Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may spread quickly and be held in honor, just as it was with you.

  2. 2 Thess 3:2And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men; for not everyone holds to the faith.

  3. 2 Thess 3:3But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.

  4. 2 Thess 3:4And we have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do what we command.

  5. 2 Thess 3:5May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.

  6. 2 Thess 3:6Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to keep away from any brother who leads an undisciplined life that is not in keeping with the tradition you received from us.

  7. 2 Thess 3:7For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not undisciplined among you,

  8. 2 Thess 3:8nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. Instead, in labor and toil, we worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you.

  9. 2 Thess 3:9Not that we lack this right, but we wanted to offer ourselves as an example for you to imitate.

  10. 2 Thess 3:10For even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “If anyone is unwilling to work, he shall not eat.”

  11. 2 Thess 3:11For we hear that some of you are leading undisciplined lives, accomplishing nothing, but being busybodies.

  12. 2 Thess 3:12We command and urge such people by our Lord Jesus Christ to begin working quietly to earn their own living.

  13. 2 Thess 3:13But as for you, brothers, do not grow weary in well-doing.

  14. 2 Thess 3:14Take note of anyone who does not obey the instructions we have given in this letter. Do not associate with him, so that he may be ashamed.

  15. 2 Thess 3:15Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

  16. 2 Thess 3:16Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

  17. 2 Thess 3:17This greeting is in my own hand—Paul. This is my mark in every letter; it is the way I write.

  18. 2 Thess 3:18The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with all of you.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
