The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

The wilderness petition is answered, but the answer arrives with a wasting disease attached.

The sea, and the memory that would not stay putvv. 1–15

The song opens with praise too large for a full description, then turns its face towards the family history: sin repeated, wonders forgotten, kindness overlooked. In Egypt, the fathers rebelled beside the Red Sea; nevertheless the sea dried at the rebuke, the enemy vanished beneath it, and belief briefly appeared, complete with singing. It did not last. Soon the people forgot the works, demanded what they craved in the wilderness, and received the request with a wasting disease tucked inside it—a rather severe parcel.

An ox where Glory had beenvv. 16–33

In the camp, envy fastened upon Moses and Aaron. The earth dealt with Dathan and the assembly of Abiram, while fire consumed the wicked. Then at Horeb came the calf: not merely an idol, but an image of a grass-eating ox exchanged for divine Glory, which is an astonishingly specific downgrade. Moses stood in the breach when destruction was threatened. Later, at Meribah, the people rebelled against the Spirit, and Moses spoke rashly with his lips; the trouble, unusually, came to Moses because of them.

The long descent, and the cry heard at lastvv. 34–48

The people did not destroy the peoples as commanded. Instead they mingled with the nations, adopted their customs, worshiped idols, and sacrificed sons and daughters to demons; the land was polluted with blood. The result was captivity and oppression, though rescue came many times and rebellion followed many times. Yet the cry of distress was heard. The covenant was remembered, loving devotion relented, and the captives became objects of compassion. The closing plea asks for gathering from the nations, ending not with an explanation but with praise, Amen, and Hallelujah.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
