The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

Elihu gives God lightning to hold in His hands, then lets the cattle watch the storm.

Elihu claims the floorvv. 1–7

Elihu continues, asking for a little more time and promising to speak on God’s behalf. He presents himself as one who gets knowledge from afar and ascribes justice to his Maker, while describing God as mighty in understanding: the wicked are not kept alive, the afflicted receive justice, and the righteous remain under His eye, enthroned with kings.

The affliction becomes a lessonvv. 8–21

When people are bound in affliction, Elihu says, God tells them what they have done, opens their ears to correction, and commands them to turn from iniquity. Obedience leads to prosperity; refusal leads to death without knowledge. Then comes the chapter’s startling aside: the godless may die young, “among the male shrine prostitutes.” Elihu turns this argument toward Job, saying that God drew him from distress into spacious richness, but that judgment has now seized him, and warning him not to let wealth, bribes, or a longing for the night draw him toward iniquity.

The storm takes the pulpitvv. 22–33

Elihu lifts his speech from warning Job to the scale of God’s works: rain distilled from mist, clouds pouring over mankind, thunder roaring from a pavilion, and lightning scattered across the sea. God fills His hands with lightning and directs it toward its mark. The nations receive judgment and food from the same workings, while the thunder declares His presence—and, in the wonderfully ordinary final glance, even the cattle regard the rising storm.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
