Description

Adullam in the text

In the words of STEPBible TIPNR:

Adullam was a Canaanite city that was conquered by Joshua during the Israelite conquest of Canaan (Joshua 12:15). It was later allotted to the tribe of Judah and listed among the cities in the Shephelah (lowlands) region (Joshua 15:35). During the time of King Saul, David fled from Saul and sought refuge in the cave of Adullam, where he was joined by about 400 men who were in distress, debt, or discontent (1Sa.22.1-2).

Later, during the reign of King David, three of his mighty men broke through the Philistine lines to bring him water from the well in Bethlehem, passing by the cave of Adullam (2Sa.23.13-17; 1Ch.11.15-19). King Rehoboam, son of Solomon, fortified Adullam as part of his defensive strategy (2Ch.11.7). After the Babylonian exile, Adullam was among the towns resettled by the people of Judah (Nehemiah 11:30).

The prophet Micah used Adullam as a symbol of the degradation and shame that would come upon the nobles of Israel because of their sins (Micah 1:15). In the story of Judah and Tamar, Judah was associated with the town of Adullam, where his friend Hirah lived (Genesis 38:1,12,20). Adullam's location is believed to be at Tel esh-Sheikh Madhkur, about 16 miles (26 km) southwest of Jerusalem.

Relations

Direct connections

Every entity the graph places in a stated relation with this one, grouped by the kind of link. Each relation is authored once and its inverse derived, so both ends always agree. Rows marked “registry” come from the identity spine rather than from a verse, and a row marked “which bearer is the source’s decision” is one where the name could have meant more than one person. The last group is not a relation at all — it counts the events two entities stand in together.

Stands in the same events as

The pattern

Where Adullam is named

Every book of the corpus in the order it is read, each as wide as the chapters it holds. A bar is the verses of that book which write the name, and the flat stretches are as much of the answer as the bars.

11 verses across 8 of 66 books; 58 write the name nowhere. Named in Genesis (3), Joshua (2), 1 Samuel (1), 2 Samuel (1), 1 Chronicles (1), 2 Chronicles (1), Nehemiah (1) and Micah (1).

Adullam is named in 11 verses — occurrences of the name in the Hebrew or Greek, counted in the versification of the Berean Standard Bible (v5.7). Every book of the corpus is drawn, its width its share of the 1,189 chapters. 58 of the 66 books never write it. A verse that tells of this subject without writing the name is not counted here.
