The chapter

What happens here

Atlas's own reading, written from this chapter and nothing else, and published only once a person has approved it. Each scene names the verses it covers; the names inside it link to the people and places they name.

Dan’s territory was lost, so the Danites went up, fought against Leshem, took it by the sword, and gave the captured city a new name. After all the other allotments, Joshua received a city of his own, rebuilt it, and settled there.

Lots, borders, and the rather busy business of inheritancevv. 1–48

The lots proceed tribe by tribe, with Simeon tucked inside Judah because Judah’s share was too large, and with Zebulun, Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Dan receiving their territories in turn. The borders travel in splendidly persistent fashion—from Sarid to Neah, past the Jordan, toward Tyre and the sea—while the cities accumulate in careful lists. Then comes the chapter’s small rupture in the surveying: the Danites lose their territory, conquer Leshem, settle there, and rename it after Dan.

Joshua’s portion, and the end of the dividingvv. 49–51

Once the land has been distributed, the Israelites give Joshua son of Nun an inheritance among them, as commanded. He receives Timnath-serah in the hill country of Ephraim because he requested it, rebuilds the city, and settles there. Eleazar, Joshua, and the heads of the families have distributed the inheritances by lot at Shiloh, before the LORD at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting; the great partition is finished.

Who else the chapter reaches

Names written in the English are linked in the text above. These are the ones that are not: an entity the Hebrew or Greek names under a spelling the translation does not use, or one reached only by an assertion about a verse of this chapter.

Named in the Hebrew or Greek somewhere in this chapter, under a form the English renders differently — the registry's Ludim against the translation's Ludites — so there is no word in the sentence to hang the link on.

Reached by an assertion Atlas extracted from a verse of this chapter rather than by a name written in it — a pronoun, a title, or a participant the sentence carries without naming. This layer is model-read and measured at 88.6–90.3% precision, and it is kept separate from the names above for that reason.
